Falmouth Middle School

This was in 2024 and was the first project where I wasn’t actually painting a mural directly on the wall. The school didn’t want one to be painted onsite in case they would move locations in the future, so didn’t want to risk losing it if the building were to ever be torn down. They requested it to be either on canvas or wooden panels so with the size and time turn around I ended up using 2 large panels to create a diptych. This is located in the lobby area of Falmouth Middle School. I had met with their social justice team to brainstorm themes/elements to be included. The majority had requested fish, water, symbolism, and forests. I went with 4 salmon to represent the Wabanaki nations, the river is based on the Presumpscot River and Johnson’s Branch stream that are nearby the Falmouth area. The double-curve motif is present in most of my paintings and is a symbol to represent Mother Nature, unity among nations, and balance through the unique natural curves in the environment; such as fiddleheads, shells, flowers, etc. Upon finishing, I also did a few presentations to the students explaining my story, inspirations, and process.
